I'd like to report that this game is bugged.
Teslagrad 1.3.1 has a bug report screen that can be shown by pressing F7. This screen has some odd interactions with normal gameplay, providing the opportunity to perform a couple of exploits:

Fade-In Head Start - while loading a save file
